Project planning and management

We can help your group to scope, plan and manage a project, including reporting your outcomes and helping communicate what you’re achieving.

Once your project has started, we can help with funds management, support you by advertising your events (e.g. weeding and planting days) on our Events Calendar, as well as administration and communications support.

  • Community Net’s Resource Kit Contents Page is a good summary of the types of advice available on this site for running projects or initiatives. They offer step-by-step advice for planning a project, and provide templates for a project brief and project budget
  • The Department of Conservation provides information about planning and managing projects conducted on DoC-managed land, but is relevant to other projects too. Check out their practical guide to protecting and restoring our natural heritage.
  • DoC and Predator Free NZ both provide helpful information of potential ways to record and monitor your project activities and impact.
  • There are many online tools for recording and monitoring. iNaturalist (recording species presence), Trap.nz (recording trapping numbers) include a downloadable app for your smartphone. CatchIT , Mapping, Analysis and Information Network Trust (Main Trust) and NZ GIS in Conservation (NZGIC) are all run by data collection and management experts who are sharing their tools and knowledge to assist conservation projects.
